As part of the initiative, there will be a ten-second timer for subs to leave the pitch when they are being replaced. Goal kicks and throw-ins will have to be taken within five seconds. Two significant World Cup initiatives have not been brought into Scottish football, though. VAR will not review the award of corner kicks. At the World Cup, VAR could inform the referee if a corner was wrongly awarded so the decision could be changed. And there will not be a red card punishment for players covering their mouths when speaking to opponents in Scotland. Miguel Almiron had been sent off at the World Cup for Paraguay after covering his mouth when speaking to a Turkey player. Following a VAR check, Almiron was ordered off.
