Aberdeen's Flying Start: Kevin Nisbet Credits Unseen Scotland Training Camp

Aberdeen's Kevin Nisbet has credited an unseen international training camp with sparking the team's flying start. The striker netted twice in Aberdeen's Premier Sports Cup win over Brora Rangers.

What Happened?

Nisbet worked hard over the summer with his former Hibs and Scotland teammate Ryan Porteous at LAFC. The goal-getter has always worked hard on his fitness but has come through this pre-season flying and without even niggles that have held him back over the last couple of summers.

Why It Matters for Scotland

The former Millwall striker also played a part in getting Smith from Livingston to Aberdeen. Nisbet explained: “I did. We have the same agent so I gave him a phone a couple of days ago and sold him on the idea of joining Aberdeen.”

What Comes Next?

Robinson has completely revamped his team. He has made 10 signings and they look a different proposition. Yes, there will be harder challenges than Brora, but there is more of an attacking intent. "That was a big thing for the gaffer during the pre-season was play forward,” Nisbet confirmed.

Last result: Liechtenstein 0-4 Scotland (2025-06-09). Recent form (last 2): 1W-0D-1L (WL, most recent first). The team has gelled well and it was Nesta (Guinness Walker’)s first game and Smith as well. For us it is just about winning and keeping clean sheets and if we do that then we will progress.

Nisbet's Thoughts

Nisbet was pleased to open his account and get the team off to winning ways. He grabbed a brace but joked he could have had a few more. He said: "It is a good start. A couple of goals, clean sheet and three points. Coming to places like Brora Rangers is always tough as you are expected to win, and to win comfortably."

Conclusion

Nisbet has started well but won’t be setting any goal targets for a few months. He said: "Ask me at Christmas. The last two Christmas haven’t been great to be honest and the boys give me a wee bit of stick and say I just turn up in January. Hopefully it starts earlier this season."

Nisbet has also praised the new signings, including Tony Yogane and Lewis Smith. He acknowledged: “Two direct, quick wingers with good deliveries who are a little bit different. Tony is maybe more one-v-one strong and Lewis makes good runs in behind and has real quality."
