Scotland national football team's Tyler Fletcher has been called up to the World Cup squad after Billy Gilmour sustained a right knee injury against Curacao. Fletcher, 19, made his senior international debut during the 4-1 victory ahead of Scotland's first World Cup appearance since 1998. He has played 17 minutes of Premier League football this season over two appearances and won the reserve team player of the year award. The Scottish Football Association confirmed on Saturday that Gilmour's injury will see him miss the World Cup. The 24-year-old limped off in the 42nd minute of the victory after a collision forced him to go down clutching his knee. He was able to be replaced as according to FIFA's regulations, Scotland could add a player included on the team's 'provisional release list', a preliminary list composed of up to 55 players that is submitted to FIFA before the final 26-player squads are announced. The national team announced the Manchester United midfielder's inclusion on their social media on Sunday. The 19-year-old, son of former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher, was drafted in as a training player this week but performed well at Hampden. 'He did, everybody's impressed, the players are impressed, the coaching staff are impressed,' Scotland manager Steve Clarke said after the game. 'I actually thought about putting him on as Billy came off, but I just thought I'd have a little look, see how the game panned out before introducing him at half time.' Clarke added he was 'devastated' for Gilmour, having been '100 per cent worried' about the prospect of having to replace a key player. 'I am devastated for Billy because he has been an integral part of our World Cup qualifying campaign,' Clarke added. 'The timing of this injury is so, so cruel and we all feel for him. 'He knows what we all think of him as a footballer and a person and while no words will give him any comfort tonight, I am certain Billy will have many major tournaments ahead of him in the future.' Gilmour has 46 caps and was likely to start the Group C opener against Haiti on June 13.
